Zusammenfassung: | This invention discloses a method for genetically transforming plants of the genus Pelargonium with the soil bacterium Agrobacterium rhizogenes. Transformants exhibit improved ornamental characteristics such as a tighter, more globular shape, unwrinkled leaves which are shorter in length and more deeply lobed, a lack of a trailing growth habit, and an increase in fragrance. Under certain conditions, transformants are more resistant to yellowing. In addition, evidence is becoming available that the transformants are more resistant to yellowing flower earlier than controls. |
