Preparation of glutaraldehyde

A process for preparing glutaraldehyde by reaction of alkoxydihydropyrans of the general formula I er at from 0 DEG to 150 DEG C. and from 0.01 to 50 bar in the presence of a catalyst consisting essentially of a bleaching earth.
