Zusammenfassung:A novel dye and photographic element comprising the dye are detailed. The dye is especially useful as an antihalation dye in a photographic element. A particularly preferred embodiment is provided in a photographic element comprising an absorbing amount of the dye: wherein X1, X2 independently represents -CR8R9-, -S-, -Se-, -NR10-, -CH=CH- or -O-; R1 and R2 independently represent alkyl of 1 to 10 carbons or substituted alkyl of 1 to 10 carbons; R3 represents a ring chosen from the set consisting of aromatic ring of 6 or 10 carbons, substituted aromatic ring of 6 or 10 carbons, a heterocyclic ring and a substituted heterocyclic ring; R4, R5, R6 and R7 independently represent hydrogen, alkyl of 1-10 carbons, substituted alkyl of 1-10 carbons; R8, R9 independently represent alkyl of 1-10 carbons, substituted alkyl of 1-10 carbons, aromatic ring of 6 or 10 carbons, substituted aromatic ring of 6 or 10 carbons; R10 represents an alkyl of 1-10 carbons, substituted alkyl of 1-10 carbons, aromatic ring of 6 or 10 carbons, substituted aromatic ring of 6 or 10 carbons; Q represents a counterion; and n is an integer chosen from 2 and 3.
