Zusammenfassung:There is disclosed a process for producing lower alkyl 2-keto-L-gulonate which comprises reacting 2-keto-L-gulonic acid with a lower alcohol in the presence of an acid, and simultaneously distilling off the resulting water together with the lower alcohol while continuously introducing a lower alcohol. By using the lower alkyl 2-keto-L-gulonate thus produced, L-ascorbate can be prepared in high purity and high yield.
