Zusammenfassung:	This invention relates to an assay useful for the evaluation of the lipid content of a biological fluid and its content in aqueous dispersion. The assay of the invention utilizes a dye-detergent complex which when solubilized by an aqueous dispersion of lipid-containing fluid sample, exhibits a characteristic color. The invention also provides for the use of the assay in the evaluation of the lipid content of a fluid, particularly amniotic fluid, which evaluation is useful for the prediction of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in newborns.
