Zusammenfassung:	A relief/check valve (14) for venting an electric storage battery comprising essentially an annular sealing member (26) having an elastomeric skirt (24) engaging a sloping exterior surface (22) of a valve seat (20). The skirt (24) flares outwardly from the valve seat (20) in direct proportion to the pressure in the battery so as to prevent excessive build-up of pressure in the battery when the gassing rate is high. The skirt (24) quickly returns to a sealing condition when the pressure within the battery drops below the opening pressure of the valve (14).
