Method of preparing a ceramic composition

A predominantly perovskite phase Pb(ZnxMg1-xNb2)1/3O3 ceramic is prepared by first forming a columbite precursor having the formula ZnxMg1-xNb2O6 and reacting this material with PbO at temperatures of from 800 DEG C. to at least 1000 DEG C. as x varies from 0.025 to 0.7.
