Zusammenfassung:	An internal combustion engine powering a motor vehicle is provided with a separate exhaust casing which is located within an engine compartment developed into a sound-insulating capsule, and is designed as a roof-type cover without a bottom shielding at least those parts of the exhaust system close to the cylinder head of the engine. This cover is connected with an outlet opening in an outer wall of the vehicle, which opening is positioned in an area where the heated air rises from the exhaust system, such that ventilation of the capsule and the exhaust system is ensured even after the engine has been turned off.
