A flavan compound represented by the formula (I) (I) wherein R, R1, R2 and R3 are as defined above, and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, which are useful as pharmaceutical agent having anti-convulsive, anti-ulcer, anti-arrythmic and diuretic activities.
