Zusammenfassung:	Iodized isophthalamic acid compounds of the formula wherein R1 is straight-chain or branched lower hydroxyalkyl; R2 is hydroxymethyl or a lower, straight-chain or branched alkyl of at least 2 carbon atoms, which can be interrupted by one or more oxygen atoms, or is wherein Z is a carbon-to-carbon bond or a straight-chain or branched hydrocarbon which can be interrupted by one or more oxygen atoms, or when R1 is other than -CH2-CH2-OH, is methyl; and the salts thereof with physiologically acceptable inorganic or organic bases, are x-ray contrast agents.
