Zusammenfassung:There is disclosed a process for biological denitrification of nitrate containing waters, particularly agricultural drain waters, sewage effluents, ground waters and the like by contacting the water with a solid cellulosic substrate comprised chiefly of paper or paper pulp in the presence of anaerobic bacteria in an active growth phase to reduce the nitrate content of the water by biological oxidation of the substrate.
