Analgesic formulations

Free-flowing readily wettable aspirin particles comprise a core of aspirin substantially encompassed by a layer comprising a water-soluble pharmaceutically acceptable coating material having a melting point of at least 105 DEG C, said coating material including at least one coating agent selected from low molecular weight amino acids, sugars, sugar alcohols and mixtures thereof, and a process for preparation of such particles comprises the steps of preparing a suspension of aspirin in an aqueous solution containing the coating material, and spray-drying said suspension, the ingredients in the suspension being made present in such relative amounts that the spray-drying step results in the formation of the particles having the characteristics set forth.
