Zusammenfassung:	Vacuum arc discharge devices having improved arc shielding characteristics are disclosed. Such improved devices comprise a vacuum sealed envelope comprising a cylindrical metallic member which functions not only as a part of the vacuum envelope, but as a shield for collecting molten metallic particles produced during high current arcing. Various embodiments of interleaved arcing electrodes which provide high current and high voltage capabilities in a fixed diameter envelope are also disclosed.
