Zusammenfassung:	The present invention relates to a process for the production of a foam having a silicate skeleton which comprises mixing in aqueous solution a water soluble silicate, a hardener which liberates acid in water and a foaming agent. It is preferred to use as silicate solution a sodium waterglass solution, as hardeners those liberating CO2, carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids or mineral acids and as foaming agents optionally halogen-substituted alkanes and alkenes, and dialkyl ethers.
