SEALING ARRANGEMENT FOR AN AIR COMPRESSOR

1358632 Rotary positive-displacement machines KAWASAKI JUKOGYO K K 20 March 1972 [20 March 1971 9 Dec 1971] 13032/72 Heading F1F A rotor 1 mountable for oscillation within a cylinder of an oscillating-vane compressor, comprises an axial shaft and vanes 23 extending therefrom provided with sealing pieces 33, 43 at the respective radial and side edges of each vane, and sealing means comprising a sealing member 62 inserted in an axial hole in a side edge of each vane adjacent to the shaft and spring means 83 disposed in the hole for urging the sealing member 62 axially outwards, the radially inner end of the respective side edge sealing piece 43 being in gas tight sliding engagement with a slot 71 in the sealing member 62 so as to be radially slidable relative thereto. The sealing piece 43 extends radially outwardly so that its outer edge is aligned with the radial sealing edges of two radial sealing pieces 33 which sealingly and slidably embrace opposite sides of the radially outer end of piece 43. In an alternative embodiment, sealing member 62 is replaced by a member having a protrusion with which two side edge sealing pieces co-operate, a single radial edge sealing piece having its axial end inserted between the radially outer ends of the two side edge pieces Figs. 8, 13, 14 and 15 (not shown).
