Zusammenfassung: | Multi-polar electrolytic cells for manufacturing oxyhalogen compounds include terminal compartments containing monopolar electrodes, and a number of bipolar electrode compartments interposed between the terminal compartments, each compartment being substantially enclosed and non-communicating with the other compartments. Open-ended electrically insulating conduits extending from the walls of each compartment are adapted to provide a current leakage path and efficient circulation of electrolyte solution through each compartment when the cell is immersed in a reaction tank containing electrolyte solution. Dimensionally stable anodes and cathodes in each compartment are generally foraminous sheet interleaved in horizontal position but may also be interleaved solid sheet disposed vertically or intermediate horizontal and vertical positions. The cell structure provides an excellent path for circulation of the electrolyte during electrolysis and minimizes electric current leakage between adjacent compartments. A process for the preparation of sodium chlorate is described. |
