Zusammenfassung:	1405833 Anthracenes BAYER AG 13 April 1973 [14 April 1972] 17833/73 Heading C5E Anthracene, or a hydrocarbyl derivative, thereof is prepared by heating 2-methyl diphenyl methane, or a hydrocarbyl derivative thereof, in the presence of elemental sulphur or a sulphur compound chosen from CS 2 , H 2 S, SO 2 and organic sulphur compounds. The reaction may be carried out at 400-800‹ C. in the presence of 0À001-1 wt. per cent of sulphur, in elemental or combined form. Examples describe the preparation of anthracene and 2- methyl anthracene. using sulphur, CS 2 , H 2 S and methyl mercaptan.
