Zusammenfassung:	A process for the preparation of mono hydric alcohols from olefins which comprises contacting a monoolefin having two to four carbon atoms with an aqueous solution containing silicotungstic radicals at a concentration higher than a molar concentration of 1/40,000 but not exceeding the saturation concentration and having a pH of 2.0 to 4.5, at an elevated temperature sufficient to initiate the hydration of said olefin.
