Preparation may be by two-stage firing in oxidizing and reducing atmospheres (H 2 -N 2 ) at 1150‹ to 1475‹ C. and 1050‹ to 1250‹ C. respectively, the second firing ensuring divalent Mn. The preparation is described for xMgO.(1-y-z)Ga 2 O 3 .yAl 2 O 3 .zMO 2 .pMnO, where M=Ge or Si, x=0À95; p=0À01 and z=0À01, 0À05, 0À1, 0À2, 0À3, for y=0À025, 0À04, 0À1, 0À25, 0À4. Applications to electronic copying devices and colour T.V. tubes are exemplified.
