[Also in Division C2] A hydrazine solution is obtained (see Example 1) by reaction of urea with sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide in aqueous solution. The hydrazine is recovered by treating the aqueous solution with a water-immiscible ketone separating the organic layer and decomposing the ketone-hydrazine reaction product in this layer with aqueous mineral acid.
