A vacuum switch is provided with means to increase the contact pressure during heavy current flow consisting of two bent strips 19, 20 which are connected in series and lie alongside one another as shown so as to repel one another and thus to supplement the force of the contact pressure spring 23. One strip 19 is attached to a member 15 moved by an operating lever 11. The second strip 20 is attached to a member 21 fixed to a contact rod 31 slidable in the member 15.
