[Also in Division C3] In an Example a Fallopian tube prosthesis is prepared by applying four layers of a viscous ethanolic solution of an ethylene glycol monomethacrylate/ethylene glycol dimethacrylate copolymer to knitted polyester tubing, evaporating ethanol at ambient temperature, soaking the tubing in water to the equilibrium state, and heating the tubing in a closed container at 105C for 45 minutes, whereby water is partly evaporated and the polymer is irreversibly crosslinked. . In another Example, a copolymer as described above is obtained in powder form, mixed with benzoyl peroxide, glycol monomethacrylate and glycol dimethacrylate, and the paste obtained is applied as a top layer over a paste prepared from methyl methacrylate monomer/polymer mixture. The two pastes are coloured in known manner, and the paste layers are polymerised in a mould to form a denture having a hard skeleton with a soft hydrogel top layer acting as an adhering pad. |
