[Also in Division C3] A crimpable conjugate filament comprises as one component poly-#-caprolactam or polyhexamethylene adipamide and, as the other component, a terpolyamide synthesized from gcaprolactam (6M), hexamethylenediammonium adipate (66 salt) and hexamethylenediammonium sebacate (610 salt) in molar proportions within the area A or the area B of the Figure. Such filaments may be made by melt spinning, using as one component poly-#-caprolactam or polyhexamethylene adipamide and, as the other component, a terpolyamide comprising #-caprolactam (6M), hexamethylenediammonium adipate (66 salt) and hexamethylenediammonium sebacate (610 salt), in which process the composition of the terpolyamide is decided by limiting the molar ratio of 6M: 66: 610 to a value within either the area A or the area B of the Figure. In examples, the terpolyamide and nylon 6 or nylon 66 are extruded through known conjugate spinning spinnerets and stretched to a draw ratio of 3À0 to 3À5 times, and thereafter relaxed and subjected to boiling water treatment at 100 C. to develop the crimp. |
