A method of developing electrostatic latent images comprises moving a stream of developer particles 16 in a cylincal path by oscillating chamber 18 and contacting the surface of drum 10 carrying the electrostatic image with the stream of particles. Chamber 18 is oscillated by a motor having eccentric weights 27 on drive shaft 28. Fresh toner may be added through an opening 29. In a modification, a belt 150 carrying a latent electrostatic image is passed above a chamber 164 oscillated by a frame 166. A development electrode comprising wires 180 is connected to a source of potential or to earth. The frequency of the oscillations of the order of 1000 to 4000 cycles per minute.
