Electrical connection is made to the exposed edges of capacitor plates 1 at the end faces of a wound or stacked capacitor by applying successive metal layers 2, 3, 5, the metals in adjacent layers being capable of forming alloys with one another. For aluminium electrodes, particularly regenerately thin metallized layers on dielectric foils 7, layer 2 may be aluminium, layer 3 copper, a copper-rich alloy or silica, and layer 5 tin, a tin-rich alloy or zinc. The layers may be applied by schoop spraying.
