An article is packaged in a container, comprising two opposed panels 16, 17 pivoted together at a fold line 15 and having aperture 20, 21 covered internally by films 22a, 22b of thermoplastic material, by inserting the article into the container through an open mouth thereof into register with the apertures 20, 21 in the panels, heating the films at the apertures 20, 21 sufficiently to soften them and closing the open mouth whilst the films are still soft. The films are thus caused to form closely about the article, Fig. 9A. The container is closed by folding a flap 31 on one panel over the other panel and sealing thereto, or by inserting flaps (41, 42, Fig. 6) into slots (45, 46), or by securing the panels together by adhesive or by staples. The films may have pre-formed pouches, (22a, 22b, Fig. 12) extending through the apertures to accommodate the article before heating. The films are heated by hot air and simultaneously the article is heated by radiant heat.
