Haloketones of the general formula wherein R is an alkyl, acyl, aryl or arylalkyl group which may be substituted by one or more halogen atoms, alkyl, hydroxy, alkoxy, -CF 3 , -NO 2 , -NH 2 , or mono- or di-alkylamino radicals, R 3 is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and X is a halogen atom, are obtained by hydrolysing the corresponding ketimine hydrochloride or by reacting a N-substituted pyrryl-magnesium halide with a haloalkylnitrile or with a haloalkyl-carbonyl-halide. 1 - (21 - Chloro - benzyl)- and 1 - (41 - chloro-, -bromo- and -methoxy-benzyl)-pyrroles and 1-(21, 61-dimethyl-phenyl)-pyrrole are prepared as starting materials.
