The invention comprises dyes of the formula where one X is OH and the other is NHR, Y is Cl or Br, Z is SR1, R and R1 are H or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon, n is 1À5-2 and m is 1À2-2. The compounds are prepared by chlorinating or brominating the corresponding unhalogenated compound. These latter compounds may be prepared by reacting a compound of the formula with hydrogen sulphide, a mercaptan or a salt thereof.
