An electrically controlled jacquard has hooks 37, 45 formed directly on the healds 13, 14 without the intervention of harness cords, the healds being urged downwards by springs 26 and lifted by griffes 31, 32 engaging the hooks 37. If a heald is to remain up, its hook 45 is attracted by an electromagnet 40 so as to rest on a fixed knife 39. If a heald is to be lowered, it is lifted slightly by the griffe so that its hook 45 springs off, the knife 39. The part 29 of the heald above the hook 37 may be bent slightly to the right so that although it moves to the left when it is engaged on the knife 39, thereby tending to swing the lower part 13 towards 9 guide 38 on the griffe, the tension due to the spring 25 partially straightens the bend thus tending to move the heald away from the guide 38.
