POLYOLEFINS CONTAINING A COMBINATION OF ANTIOXIDANTS AND ULTRAVIOLET ABSORBERS

Compositions comprise a solid polyolefin, a hydroxybenzyl phosphonate, a substituted 1,3,5 - triazine, a nickel chelate which is a nickel phenolate of a bis(p-alkylphenol) monosulphide or an amine complex of a nickel 2,21- thiobis(p - alkylphenolate) and a substituted 2 - (21 - hydroxyphenyl) chlorobenzotriazole. The polymer may be polyethylene, polpropylene, polybutylene, poly - 4 - methylpentene - 1 or an ethylene/propylene copolymer. The compositions may also comprise conventional additives and may be made into fibres. Examples describe compositions comprising polypropylene, dioctadecyl 3,5 - di - t. - butyl - 4 - hydroxybenzyl phosphonate, 2,4 - bis(3,5 - di - t. - butyl - 4 - hydroxyphenoxy) - 6 - (n - octylthio) - 1,3,5 - triazine, a mixture of nickel phenolates of 0,01 - bis(p - octylphenol)monosulphide, 0,01 - bis(p - nonylphenol)monosulphide and 0,01 - bis(p - 1,1,3,3 - tetramethylbutylphenol)monosulphide, and 2 - (21 - hydroxyphenyl - 31,51 - di - t. - butyl) - 5 - chlorobenzotriazole.
