Zusammenfassung: | 1,198,650. Passivating powder or porous ferrous metal. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. Sept. 11, 1967 [Sept. 20, 1966], No.41464/67. Heading C7U. Powdered or compacted porous iron such as produced by a fluidized iron ore reduction process is passivated by oxidation above 1058 F. in a gaseous atmosphere to form a mustite film containing Fe2+ and Fe3+ in a ratio of at least 20:8 and then coating, preferably in the same atmosphere to connect mustite to the increase spinal form of magnetite. The mustite is formed preferably at 1200 - 1600 F. and in the case of Fe powder from a fluidized iron ore reduction a mixture of H 2 and/ or Co with steam is used to form the mustite. The treated powder is quenched to 1000 F. in the same atmosphere and then cooled to room temperature in nitrogen. The oxide film thickness is 20 A. - 10, 000A. |
