Stabilized therapeutic compositions for the treatment 'of inflammatory skin disorders and arteriosclerosis comprise licosatetrayn-(5, 8, 11, 14)-oic (1) acid or an alkyl ester containing 1 to 7 carbon atoms in the alkyl group or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof in admixture with an edible oil, edible fat or edible wax or a mixture thereof. The oils Imay be the glycerides of fatty acids such as the mono-, di- or tri-glyceride of saturated or unsaturated fatty acids containing from 6 'to 24 carbon atoms, e.g. coconut, sasame, peanut. corn, cottonseed or soy bean oil or modified fractions c,f these oils, lard and butter oil; and the wax may comprise beeswax, cetyl alcohol, montan wax or Japan wax. The composition may contain alipid-soluble antioxidant. Suitable salts of the acid include alkali-metal salts (e.g. Na and K), ammonium, alkaline-earthmetal (e.g. Ca) and organic arnine salts (e.g. ethylamine, diethylamine, triethylamine, ethylenediamine, mono-, di- or tri-ethianolamine, ethyldiethanolamine, butylmonocthanolamine, p-(tertiary amyl)-phenyldiethanolamine, galactamine, N-methyl-glutamine, glucosamine and guaridine salts). The compositions may be administered orally in the form of solutions, suspensions or capsules (e.g. gelatin capsules) containing conventional excipients.
