Zusammenfassung:1,220,633. Coating with mortar. DOW CHEMICAL CO. 20 Aug., 1968, No. 39775/68. Heading B2E. Cementitious mortar is adhered to a brick or metallic surface through an intermediate layer of a thermoplastic vinylidene chloride interpolymeric latex of from 35-90% by weight vinylidene chloride and from 65-10% by weight of at least one dissimilar interpolymerizable monomer, based on a total interpolymer latex solids content of 100% by weight. The latex is applied to the substrate as a coating and subsequently allowed to dry to a film before applying the cementitious material. Suitable interpolymerizable monomers have the formula CH 2 =CRX, wherein R is hydrogen, methyl and X is -CN, fluorine, chlorine or bromine or -COOY wherein Y is a primary or secondary alkyl group (C 1-18 ). Other suitable monomers are alkoxyethyl acrylates or methacrylates. The latex is applied to the substrate by brushing or spraying. The cementitious material may be Portland cement which is applied to the substrate after mixing with water. Comparative examples describe the coating of metallic surfaces with emulsions of a styrene/butadiene copolymer and an acrylic copolymer.
