Zusammenfassung: | 1,133,521. Asbestos dispersion. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION. 11 May, 1966 [14 May, 1965], No. 20864/66. Heading C1A. A chrysotile asbestos dispersion of 0À5-5% by weight is made by forming a slurry of the asbestos in water containing, by weight, not more than 100 p.p.rn. of monovalent anions and not more than 10 p.p.m. of multivalent anions, adding a water-soluble monobasic carboxylic acid containing not more than 6 carbon atoms to give a pH of 3À8-6À3 and applying highspeed shearing forces. The dispersion alternatively may be made by diluting an 8-10% by weight slurry prepared by the above process and/or the acid may alternatively be added to the water prior to slurrying the asbestos. The carboxylic acid may be saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted but to avoid excessive foaming must not contain more than six carbon atoms. Formic, acetic, propionic, butyric, valeric, acrylic, crotonic, methacrylic, lactic, angelic, pyruvic and tiglic acids are suitable. The final slurry has a viscosity generally within the range 1-10 centipoise at 25 C. |
