Process for the preparation of high purity phthalonitriles
Phthalonitriles having a "TEG colour" of below 250 are made by distilling crude material in a system having at least 3 plates and with an overall reflux to feed ratio of at least 0.05 to 1. The crude phthalonitrile is preferably that obtained by ammoxidation of a xylene. Terephthalic acid...

Zusammenfassung: | Phthalonitriles having a "TEG colour" of below 250 are made by distilling crude material in a system having at least 3 plates and with an overall reflux to feed ratio of at least 0.05 to 1. The crude phthalonitrile is preferably that obtained by ammoxidation of a xylene. Terephthalic acid is prepared by alkaline or acidic hydrolysis of purified terephthalonitrile. Isophthalic acid is made similarly. Bis-(2-hydroxyethyl) terephthalate is prepared by reacting either purified terephthalonitrile or terephthalic acid obtained from the latter, with ethylene glycol in presence of alkali. |
