A diaphragm (Fig. 2) comprises a plurality of blades 5 having pins 5a and 5b, the pins 5a being movable in slotted guides 1c in the diaphragm housing 1 and slots 2b in an aperture setting ring 2, and the pins 5b being movable in slots 2c in the housing, so that the aperture defined by the blades 5 may be varied by rotating the setting ring with respect to the housing. In embodiments each slot 1c may be replaced by two slots, or the slots in the base and the ring may be interchanged.
