An annular bearing block of sintered powder comprises a layer (1) of fine pores impregnated with oil and for contacting a shaft, and an outer layer (2) of larger pores in contact with atmosphere, the size of the fine pores being such that a vacuum may be maintained in the zone bounded by the layer 1. The fine layer may extend the length of the block (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown) or less (Figs. 3-6, not shown), in which latter case both ends are adjacent larger bore material.
