Zusammenfassung:Alumina whiskers are produced by a process wherein aluminium is vaporized at from 1300-1600 DEG C. and carried by an atmosphere of moist hydrogen of dew point no higher than - 45.5 DEG C., containing 0.1 to 0.5 weight per cent sulphur, and whiskers are deposited on a growth substrate. Whiskers of length 0.5 to 40 microns are obtained depending on the time of growth. They may be produced batchwise or continuously as described in Specification 970,635.
