Fluorescent light socket

A holder for one end of a two-pin fluorescent lamp comprises a flat plastics body 1 having a cavity 2 which, at one end, terminates in a slot 3 through an edge of the body 1 for insertion of the lamp pins, and at its other end has two hooked contacts for engaging the pins when the inserted lamp is rotated through ninety degrees. The contacts (14) (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown) are crimped to the conductors and insulation of leads 17 which pass through channels (5, 6) in the body 1, and each terminate in a hooked portion (16) with a recess (19) for engaging a plug pin (20). Bent end portions and tongues (18) of the contacts, engage abutments (10) and recesses (9) in the body 1. Access channels 7 and 8, for a contact-releasing tool, and mounting holes 11 for screws are provided in the body.
