The legs (13), Fig. 1 (not shown) of an offshore drilling platform (11) are driven to refusal in the bed (7) of a body of water (6) and a solidifiable liquid bitumen asphalt or resin-forming composition which is pumped from a location above the water surface into zones surrounding each leg (13) at about the top of the bed (7), solidifies in contact with the legs and the bed to form scour plates (15) which prevent currents, tides and waves from scouring away the sand, mud and pebbles from around the legs of the platform.
