The lasting machine of the parent Specification has modified joint wipers comprising a main wiping portion 2 and a resilient spring plate 61 overlying the main portion. When the toe wipers 7 reach the end of their movement they displace the main wiping portion 2 leaving the spring plate 61 in contact with the shoe bottom as shown in Fig. 4.
