Polymerization of ethylene in the presence of inorganic salt hydrates
Polyethylene is made by polymerizing ethylene in an inert diluent with a catalyst consisting of aluminium, AlCl3 and either TiCl4 or hydrogen and VCl4, in the proportion of 1 to 12, preferably 1 to 3, gm. atom of Al and 0.3 to 3, preferably 0.5 to 2, moles of AlCl3 per mole of TiCl4 or VCl4, and an...

Zusammenfassung: | Polyethylene is made by polymerizing ethylene in an inert diluent with a catalyst consisting of aluminium, AlCl3 and either TiCl4 or hydrogen and VCl4, in the proportion of 1 to 12, preferably 1 to 3, gm. atom of Al and 0.3 to 3, preferably 0.5 to 2, moles of AlCl3 per mole of TiCl4 or VCl4, and an inorganic salt hydrate which gives up a substantial proportion of its water of hydration at a minimum temperature of about 100 DEG C. The hydrate may Ba Cl2.2H2O, MnSO4. H2O, Cu(NO3)2. 3H2O, or AlCl3.6H2O. The hydrates may be incorporated in the catalyst as a dispersion in a diluent, or after the other components have been ball-milled. Specification 975,143 is referred to. |
