A motor vehicle steering column assembly includes an annular elastomeric member 102 extending between steering shaft 22 and column 20 to prevent sound transmission along the annular space between the shaft and column. When the column assembly includes a rotatable tube 21 of the gear change linkage two elastomeric devices 29, 50 are fitted. In Fig. 4 member 102 comprises a metal ring 101 welded to column 20 and a convoluted annular elastomer with annular projections 103 engaging slidably shaft 22. In Fig. 2 member 29 comprises a collar 24 welded to shaft 22 secured to nylon ring 26 slidable between nylon rings 32, 33 bonded to rubber member 31 which is also bonded to ring 30 secured to tube 21. In an alternative (Fig. 3, not shown) the rubber member is convoluted. In alternatives the metal rings are inside the elastomeric devices. |
