In a brake comprising a drum, a pair of internal shoes 12, 14, a brake actuator 48, a single retractor spring 40 in engagement engaging and biasing the ends of the shoes against the actuator and a link 54 located between and engaged by the opposite ends of the shoes, the brake includes an anchor pin 20 against which the spring 40 holds the ends of the shoes, the anchor pin lying on the line joining the points of contact of the retractor spring with the shoes. The anchor pin is provided with a keep plate 46 retaining the shoe ends 36, 38. The link 54 forms part of an automatic wear adjustment 54, 56, 64, 72, 58, 60 which operates when the brake is applied during reverse motion of the vehicle. In another embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) the spring 40 is formed to lie in a plane perpendicular to that in which the shoes move. |
