To improve the road holding, without sacrificing comfort, of a pneumatic tyre having a crown reinforcement of three triangulated parallel metal cord plies 6, 7, 8 as in Specification 628,060, two of the plies 6, 7 are of substantially the same width as the tread, are embedded in rubber having a modulus of elasticity at 100% elongation of at least 350 gms/mm.2 and are cross-laid each with a cord angle of 8 to 40 degrees to the mid-circumferential plane X-X1, and the third ply 8 is of a width not exceeding 75% that of the tread, has a cord angle of at least 40 degrees and is disposed either above or between the two plies 6, 7. The width of ply 8 should not be less than 30% that of the tread and should be embedded in rubber of at least 350 gms/mm.2 modulus. Specification 677,166 also is referred to. |
