[Also in Group XXIV] A traversing mechanism 21 for winding yarn on to a rotating bobbin is reciprocated along guide bars 12, 13 by an endless belt 29, there being a pair of air-operated plungers within the traversing mechanism controlling a slidable gripper 45 such that the mechanism is clamped alternately to the two spans of the belt 29. The stroke of the traversing action is controlled by two stop members 23, 24 each carrying a lever 120, 121 engageable with a snap-action lever on the traversing mechanism that controls the action of the plungers therein. As the winding of the bobbin progresses the stop members 23, 29 are slowly moved towards each other by a cable drive 105, to decrease the stroke and produce a package having tapered ends.
