Zusammenfassung: | 900,421. Catamenial appliances. KIMBERLY - CLARK CORPORATION. March 26, 1959 [March 31, 1958], No. 10662/59. Class 81 (2). In apparatus for wrapping absorbent pads to form sanitary napkins, the pads are placed in spaced relation on a travelling web of wrapper material, the web is folded around the pads to produce a tubular formation, pleats are then formed, over an internal mandrel, between adjacent pads and finally the web is cut to separate the finished napkins. The mandrel extends along the web of wrapper material as far as the pleating means. The wrapper material 20 is taken from a roll 19 and the pads 11 are placed on it with the strip-like mandrel 40 between them and the material. Plough-shaped plates 24, 25 fold the edges of the web into overlapping relation and it passes to guides 28 which hold the wrapper out to the full width of the pads while the protruding, unfilled part of the wrapper, between pads, is pleated by eccentric, sharpedged discs 29, 29. Rollers 39, of which only the lower one is shown, then press the pleated web, to make it retain its shape, and the finished napkins are finally separated off by transverse cutting knives. |
