[Also in Groups XIX and XXXVIII] Apparatus for determining irregularities in the rolling resistances to a motor tyre comprises a roller 10 pressed against the tyre by two cantilever-mounted leaf springs 11, whereby variations in rolling resistance produce lateral movements of the roller 10, the rate of change being indicated by the output from a coil 17a movable in the field of a permanent magnet 20, the coil being attached to the roller by an arm 18. The rate of change of rolling resistance is said to be indicative of the tendency of the tyre to produce a thumping noise in use.
