Zusammenfassung:	An anti-rust composition comprises a fluid petroleum hydrocarbon containing 0.1 to 5% by weight thereof of at least one N-substituted a -hydroxycarboxylic acid amide of formula where R is hydrogen or methyl, R1 is C9-C29 alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl and R11 is hydrogen. Fluid petroleum hydrocarbons specified are those having a boiling range of 40-500 DEG C. Petroleum hydrocarbons specified are gasoline, kerosene, gas oil, petroleum naphtha, mineral spirits, mineral seal oil, aromatic hydrocarbons, paraffins, cycloparaffins, transformer oil, Diesel oil, cutting oil, slushing oil and lubricating oil.ALSO:Compounds of general formula where R=hydrogen or methyl, R1 is C9-C29 alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl group, R11 is hydrogen, are prepared by reacting one mol. of an organic primary amine or mixtures of such amines containing 10-30 carbon atoms with one mol. of either g -butyrolactone or g -valerolactone at 80-95 DEG C. Amongst starting materials specified are decyl, abietinyl, oleyl, erucyl, nonylbenzyl and dioctylbenzyl amines.
