Zusammenfassung:819,465. Friction clutches. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. Dec. 20, 1955 [Dec. 31, 1954], No. 36433/55. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XVI] A frictional clutch for connecting a driving drum 70 to a shaft 69 (not shown) comprises two ratchet wheels 71, 72 with oppositely disposed teeth controlling two wedging members 139, 140. The wheels 71, 72, normally held by pawls controlled by electromagnets, are connected by a member 144 adjustably pivoted eccentrically at 147 on the wheel 72 and having a pin and slot connection 146 with the wheel 71. The member 144 and wedging members 139, 140 are held in containers (not shown), the latter being urged inwardly by springs 154. When the pawls release the wheels 71, 72 a strong spring 138 connected to the wheel 72 and to a stud 143 passing through the member 144 tends to force the wheels apart and by the member 144 and studs 157 to force the fingers 141, 1411, 142, 1421 of the wedging members 139, 140 into engagement with the drum 70 which then drives through the wedges, member 144 and studs 157, the gear 72 attached to the shaft 69 (not shown). When the pawls re-engage, the wheel 71 is stopped and, through the pin and slot connection 146, operates member 144 to disengage the wedging members while the wheel 72 carries on a little but is prevented from returning under the action of spring 138 by its pawl engaging. Specifications 618,267, 676,155, [both in Group XVI], 721,315, 797,559, [Group XXXVII], 819,466 and 819,467, [both in Group XVI], are referred to.
